Nelson Mandela Day

On the 18 July 2016, the King Hintsa College Staff took time off from their busy schedule to go clean up the grave of the late King Hintsa located in Lower-Gwadu Willowvale, in honour of 67 minutes for the annual Mandela Day. Nelson Mandela International Day (or Mandela Day) is an annual international day in honour of Nelson Mandela, celebrated each year on 18 July, Mandela’s birthday. The day was officially declared by the United Nations in November 2009, with the first UN Mandela Day held on 18 July 2010.

Staff members ignored the dry and extremely hot conditions in order to honour this great event. The event was not only a great Corporate Social Involvement Program but also a great Team Building exercise. The gesture was well received by the royal house and as such a sheep was slaughtered to show appreciation for the good deed. The day ended well with members of the royal house giving KHC employees a tour around the royal compound and even giving some history lessons of the Xhosa Kingdom.
