Gender Based Violence Awareness
King Hintsa College in partnership with Higher Health conducted Gender Based Violence awareness dialogue. With other stakeholders:
- Sonke Gender Justice,
- Department of social development (centane & Butterworth),
- Man of Change,
- SAPS,
- Thuthuzela Care Centre.
The purpose of the day was to say “Enough is Enough” against Gender Based Violence. What brought the idea in light was triggered by the recent incident of a female student from Fort Hare University. The stakeholders did their presentations for the students in letting them know how to deal, protect themselves and seeing “Red Flags” that would lead to Gender Based Violence and what to do if it happens, who to talk to or disclose the issue. There’s a National Strategic Plan for GBV in Social Development to arrange for the victims counselling and ways of moving on and feeling safe again. Thuthuzela Care Centre educated the students in the use of “PEP” with the rape victims.
Also the students take part by doing dialogue which they were given questions to discuss about Gender Based Violence.
